Would love that solution, but ... 1 probably not available, and 2 if he was available, you have to pay Ainge's price to get him RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - F Gump - 06-18-2022 (06-18-2022, 02:18 AM)SamStetz Wrote: Danny Green knows he is at risk of getting cut and receiving $0 since his whole $10mil is NGTD. So, he makes it known to Dallas that they can buy him out and only pay him $1mil in order to help Philly get Boban as a third team in the Wood trade (Philly guarantees the second year of DG’s deal, trades him and an asset {future second} to Dallas in the TPE, and DG gives Dallas 9 million back as a buyout) Doesn't work rules-wise RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - F Gump - 06-18-2022 (06-18-2022, 06:36 AM)Smitty Wrote: What about Andre Drummond as the back up big to use against the bigger 5’s in the playoffs. I can’t recall if he’s a standout defender but I do know he’s a plus rebounder and a bigger body that this team is lacking there. Drummond puts up big rebounding numbers, but his defense is meh. It has caused teams to sit him, despite his numbers. Whether you can get him is also iffy. In PHI he already has a role like the Mavs would be offering. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - F Gump - 06-18-2022 (06-18-2022, 09:09 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: As many have said, if you assume Powell stays, the thing that is missing is a big wing closer in size to DFS than THJ, Green and Frank. I'm a bit dubious that they will spend the TP-MLE, but maybe Cuban is inspired by the turnaround and more willing to let go of money than I'm anticipating. I like your analysis. But I'm wondering how that works, too. The Mavs don't seem to have the minutes to offer an additional wing UNLESS they have THJ outbound. And unfortunately, right now you're likely getting pennies on the dollar for THJ, who (despite the flaws we see) has real talent and should be of real value to a team who needs a scorer. Do they look for the best 2-way bigger wing they can land for txMLE, and then sort it out later? And if they do it that way, can they get anyone worth having? One other note -- last summer, in a similar situation, GS just went for the ones who would come for a one-year minimum, and should the Mavs just try that instead? REGULARS DEEP BACKUP/DEVELOP BIGS (48 mins) Wood, Kleber Powell CREATOR (96 mins) Luka Dinwiddie Dragic Brunson WING (96 mins) DFS Bertans THJ Bullock Green, Franky, Pinson RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - Mapka - 06-18-2022 (06-18-2022, 10:25 AM)F Gump Wrote: I like your analysis. For a 10M TPE to be generated, DG has to be fully guaranteed for the 10M. Then the Mavs owe him 10M for 2022-23, which with tax will cost them about 50M. No chance. Then, any private side agreement with DG is against the rules, and would be unenforceable, so it will cost you 10M (plus tax charge on it) to waive him. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - DanSchwartzgan - 06-18-2022 (06-18-2022, 10:25 AM)F Gump Wrote: I like your analysis. Yeah, I don't know which path (Trade or MLE or VMin) for filling the final spot. The minutes thing wouldn't bother me as much if we weren't paying Bertans all that money to watch. How do you justify paying $6mm to Batum (using him as the archetype placeholder) plus tax with Bertans on the roster? I wrote yesterday about the timing of what I'm calling "THE" trade. If that trade is still in the not too distant future, maybe you spend the money, add the body and figure it out after the TDL or next summer. You'll have to send out multiple bodies in "THE" trade and you want to have enough leftover afterwards. One other note. While I like the idea of adding "Batum", there is some school of thought that Maxi isn't really a center. He could certainly pick up whatever "Big Wing" minutes Dorian doesn't play. I think the pendulum has swung WAY too far on Powell. He averaged 25 minutes post all-star break averaging 12/6 and fairly dramatically outplayed Maxi to close the regular season. The team was 15-6 during that time. He isn't the total dog poop that he's made out to be, especially in a more appropriate role off the bench. I think it just as likely he's still in the regular season rotation and the Vet Min money is spend on someone like a Biyombo. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - Jommybone - 06-18-2022 I like Danny Green for the minimum to rehab here and contribute come playoff time. I think you all are right to pencil Dragic into a slot. But I’ll be shocked if it’s the Burke/minimum spot this thread seems to be imagining. In 4 playoff games vs. Boston, he just averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 19.8 minutes/game. All while shooting 56.3% from the field. Dude doesn’t look retirement ready to me. He´ll be almost 36, when he next steps on an NBA floor on a complete surgically repaired knee. Andre Igoudala played 63 play-off minutes in seven games for the Warriors. Moody is 19!!!! He played 105 minutes in 13 games. Kuminga is 19!!!! He played 138 minutes in 16 games. Poole is 22!!!! He played 605 minutes in 22 games. Can we focus on players that are not on their last legs? Gary Harris turns 28 in the summer. He is healthy and had a bounce back season, +3.6 on/off on a team with the 27th best net-rating (-8.0). RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - Chicagojk - 06-18-2022 Ingles also feels like a classic Mavs move. I don't know how his injury impacts him. With Utah looking like they will be a changed roster, he may look for a change (he was traded at the trade deadline but he was out already). Even if he has lost a step at 34, I could see him having a Batum '20 impact if healthy. I can totally see him making big plays in the second half of a playoff series. The question is do we have enough role for him and if he is the right fit? Would be a stop gap solution as a 18-20 minute 4, but could provide value. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRwG_RqDdDM something like this Wood/Kleber/Powell center minutes- Powell can take some of the load off Kleber in the regular season as your energizer innings eater. Wood will need to live up to our expectations though. PF- DFS 30 minutes & Ingles 18 SF- Bullock- 25 minutes and Hardaway 23 minutes backcourt- Luka, Jalen and Din get the most of the minutes. Maybe Hardaway can get a few or a few for Green. Those 18-25 minutes-ish needs to be what we need to figure out now. Long term, if Wood is a fit here, that PF is the position where we need to make our big move at imo. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - BoredAssistant - 06-18-2022 I like ThisIStheYear's idea of selling high on Dinwiddie, assuming JB is resigned. Is a player of his ability content being a sixth man for a couple of years, in his prime? Not that I have heard him complain and he seems like a team-player. Wonder if we could get a 1st from an eastern conference non-contender (a team projected to finish 5 through 10 and not WAS obviously) who has not traded their first rounders. Or any first in any year really that could help us move up in subsequent drafts, add to a trade, and reduce the tax burden. It is just tough to swallow we have 5 bench guys making over 10 million. With Din, THJ and Bertans making real big #'s. I think here will be trouble getting off any at this time. Hardaway being the easiest but maybe not as he is coming off injury. Maybe at the trade deadline or next offseason, but we may need to swallow that bullet for now. I can see a vision where it looks really good and the bench offense looks really good with Din and Hardaway leading the charge. At the same time I can see it look clunky and leads to issues with playing time. You are welcome to focus on whomever you like. You do you. But Iggy is 38. PJ Tucker, who is 37, just contributed 28 mins/game for the Heat. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - Mavs2021 - 06-18-2022 How about Derrick Favors into the current TPE. I just offer Presti cap relief, so he can play his dumb contract game. Right now the Thunder don´t have that much capspace left, due to Kemba´s 27M cap-hit. So taking Favors off their hands for free, means they can play contract dumpster in 2022/2023 again. After July 1st: Ross + Cannady for THJ Ross is in the last year of his contract and we generate a $4.6M ish trade exception. Prince can probably be had for the $4.6M and Thomas Bryant is probably the worst case guaranteed taxpayer MLE in that group with Smith, Hartenstein, Nurkic, Bamba, Noel. Could also go real nice, if Nico is a better negotiator and tamperer we come away with something like Gary Harris for the TP-MLE and TJ Warren for the $4.6M. Doncic/Dinwiddie/Ntilikina Brunson/Harris/Ross Bullock/Warren/Green DFS/Kleber/Bertans Wood/Favors/Powell RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - SamStetz - 06-18-2022 I wonder if there is a deal somewhere here between Philly/Charlotte/Dallas where Dallas could pick up either pick 13 or 15 to help facilitate… PHI: Hayward/DP DAL: Harris/Washington/15 CHA: THJ/23 The math works on this as it is, so Dallas could use part of the TPE on Washington, or go after Holmes with it to replace Powell (which would increase the tax even further). Couple things: 1. Does Charolette view THJ as an upgrade to Hayward and worth moving back 8 spots? 2. Does Philly value Hayward/DP as enough of an upgrade (or salary relief from Harris) to trade away 23? 3. Is 15/Washington enough compensation for Dallas to take on Harris? 4. Is the tax implication for Dallas too much? Post-injury Din showed the ability to help almost any team and he is sure to get better, which I assume makes him easier to move. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | "playoff rotation wing" priority for DAL - nash_funk - 06-18-2022 I'm all about continuing to upgrade the frontcourt. Adding a 20/10 center was huge, but still need more. John Collins looks to be taken if they want to land Gobert. What about Tobias Harris. His contract is awful, but no worse than Andrew Wiggins' when GS traded for him. A trade revolving around THJ would save PHI $s while allowing us to unload him.
