RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - Kammrath - 08-05-2021 RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - Branduil - 08-05-2021 MLE money sounds right for DFS. There's zero reason to go higher than that, because no team in the league would spend more than that on him. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - SleepingHero - 08-06-2021 I'd much rather bring back DSJ as our 3rd guard off the bench than Trey Burke. Probably nostalgia glasses setting in but I still think DSJ can be something in the league. DSJ needs a feel good restart with the Luka locker room vibe and you'd get something. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - david75090 - 08-06-2021 I wondered, at the time, why the Mavs were drafting another PG when they already had their PG of the future in DSJ. This new guy must be a forward, or something. Then we see him play and realize DSJ is no kind of PG in comparison, but due to, perhaps a possible fragile ego, DSJ MUST be the starter at PG, unless traded. But SURELY the Mavs wouldn't trade such an athlete. That RC would figure it out. Fast forward... I expect Tyrell Terry will be raw, but this summer league will be important to him. If he can show he has made some progress, I don't think Burke needs to stick around. I wish Moses Brown was playing summer league, because it would give us a good idea if we should go heavy at C due to his potential or if he is not worth keeping another center. -This is with the thought we are done in FA....and maybe we are not. RE: ROSTER TALK: cap set to $112.414M | FA starts Aug 2, 5pm - SleepingHero - 08-06-2021 (08-06-2021, 08:28 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: aren't we one over as we stand right now? I truly don't expect Tyrell Terry to give anything of substance next year. And honestly I don't expect him to be in the league past his rookie contract. Last year he showed a bunch of nothing and seemed to get swallowed up by the bigger/faster play of the NBA. Others have pointed out this could easily be because of his mental health struggle, and I agree that definitely played a part. But I still didn't like him all that much as a prospect coming out of college. I can't see him ever becoming a passable defender enough to get past 8mpg. DSJ on the other hand is feeling the heat. Should the Mavs offer him a contract it'd likely be his very last chance before China. That kind of fire can produce something. Add in all of the feel good stuff of him coming back to the team that drafted him and a reuniting with Luka, I can tangibly see him excelling as a 3rd guard punchy scorer of the bench much like Trey Burke. I could be very wrong about this. I just have no belief that Terry will ever be an NBA player. Mavs not wanting to trade him for Dragic gives me some hope for his future though. I'm not really feeling the DSJ idea. He has some growing up to do and playing overseas might be just what the doctor ordered. There's no doubt the guy is talented and still incredibly athletic. He never really got an opportunity in NYK after thibs was hired, and he had some personal tragedy's that cost him time on the court himself. He seemed to have improved his 3pt shot in Detroit which shows a willingness to work on his weaknesses. I understand the hesitation though, but we are talking about the backup's backup here. I don't think DSJ, should he sign here, would get more than 10mpg. I do think that DSJ would do more in 10mpg than Terry which I guess is what I'm trying to argue. Plus I just want to move off of Burke's salary. The way DSJ ended his time in Dallas just doesn't sit right with me. I'd also think Detroit would hand onto him on the cheap if there wasn't something there. Could you imagine how good we would feel about this team if we had Saddiq Bey and Xavier Tillman or Desmond Bane and Theo Maledon instead of Green and Terry? We have so few draft picks coming up and blowing both of those like we did has set us back years. (And if he is, I'm disappointed he's still on this roster - that "own goal" of a contract is the gift that keeps on giving, every summer and every deadline, with an unmovable higher salary player stuck on the roster eating up money and minutes.) 2 About the current result, last year's team did have 3 point-guard types (Luka, J-Rich, Brunson) which meant that you're covered for basic injury days and rest. And then behind those 3, there was Burke and Terry, for an emergency. I'm not talking about a secondary creator (although, it could be filled by the same person), but someone to get the ball up the floor, and to start the offense. J-Rich was erased from that equation. We wanted him upgraded with a point who could also help create, but that didn't happen. Instead, it was just a removal. Now, at least on paper, I think he has been replaced by Burke and Terry promoted to that role. Even though he wasn't what we wanted, are they good enough to replace that rudimentary part of what he did? If not, who? (Or, for such a role, should they wait and see if someone emerges in the G-L who can be grabbed during the season?) Want to break down the pick status? I’ll go first. I think it is our 2023 that is top 10 protected through 2025, which limits us from trading a FRP until 2027.. BUT we can choose to unprotect it which will allow us to trade our 2025 first. I’m just repeating what I think I heard elsewhere. It seems we are lacking in that role. I disagree somewhat w your description of J Rich as a point guard type. I never saw him in much of a point guard role, but he could pass, break down a defender and certainly create offense for himself and others. But as far as if he was needed to ACTUALLY play PG, I believe Burke would have leap-frogged him to fill that role. We obviously don’t know that for sure, but with that as my theory I don’t think we are any worse off at bupg than we were last year. But we do lack one offensive creator(who was marginal at it) That said, I totally agree with your overall sentiment. In all our minds and hearts Dragic is supposed to be here filling those shoes. He’s not. So what do they need to do? I know we have some cap space left if under the cap. We also have the TPE. There seems to be DSJ’s name possibly throwing rocks at the window. Then there is a player whose name has not been brought up for which I won’t name, but you can try and guess. |
