RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Branduil - 05-08-2022 Batum would be fantastic as our bench 3&D guy so we don't have to play Bullock and DFS 40 minutes a game. Certainly a massive upgrade over Sterling Brown (and Green, unfortunately). Isn't this what we are supposed to be doing here? The roster is set? Its been set since the TDL yet this thread has been going strong. Some folks enjoy discussing potential options for the future roster. I totally get that you would not want to post or even read this kind of stuff during a playoff run. That is the beauty of having a thread dedicated to it, so you can avoid it if you choose. I get that it’s just discouraging at times that this is THE place to read and talk about the Mavs yet 90% of the content is always about NEXT year. I’m not picking at you or anyone in particular. There’s a lot of dead time in between games so I understand to an extent. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Razzmatazz_Hopskidillydoo - 05-08-2022 Hayward + Washington for THJ + Bertans No picks involved. Maybe we should take a more long term approach Re-sign Brunson add young talent with pick 26 add a vet min big i.e. Biyombo, Drummond, Hartenstein etc add Hardaway. Think of him as our FA signing Roll with this team the next couple years The big we need is in the mold of Robert Williams. Let’s just try to draft that guy. Build up assets and see what this team/style can do with an extended look RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - cow - 05-08-2022 (05-08-2022, 10:08 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: What we have with chemistry isn’t something to be toyed with too much. Figure out a way to keep Pinson on the roster long term. The team chemistry was great beforehand but he brought it to another level. One of ém due to be paid and not sure how much Charlotte is willing to spend for an undersized 4 who probably is a JAG. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - VintagePejav2 - 05-08-2022 1. Re-sign Brunson. 2. Re-sign Brunson. 3. Find another Maxi-or-better big. Maxi’s a 20-min/night in the regular season kind of guy. Find someone to fill the other 28. Agree with the earlier take that it is preferably a big with 3-point range, but they most importantly need to be able to defend in the Kidd/Sweeney system (i.e. no drop coverage). 4. Find another 3&D wing that can take some load off of Reggie and Dorian. 5. Sign to Pinson to an NBA contract. Personally, I think THJ and Dwight are gone - if the Mavs can make it happen. Hardaway does not fit into Kidd’s style - he actually has a very tradeable contract. Powell actually does fit in with Kidd, but he’s on an expiring and the Mavs badly need to upgrade the starting 5 spot. I’d like to also see some of the end-of-bench fat trimmed as well - e.g. Burke and Boban. Not sure how much would it take to get Boucher, but him and Maxi would be a good combo, together or alternating. Trade for Muscala, trade down from 26th to 34. Moose is a C so, this is better. Pick a big, whether traded down or at 26. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Mavs2021 - 05-08-2022 (05-08-2022, 06:39 PM)mvossman Wrote: Sometimes it seems like you are more concerned with collecting assets than winning basketball games. We are currently tied up in the playoffs with the best team in the NBA. I feel like we would be way better off making small incremental changes the next offseason or two, and then make the big swing if necessary when the bad contracts have mostly run their course and we have access to all our picks. We worked under the assumption that Brunson WANTS to leave and then this trade is about as good as you can do in the situation. Gafford and Williams are the kind of cost-controlled young bigs you want, maybe need, to add to your expensive roster. You add a lot of trade assets for a big trade down the road, whether that is six months, 12 months or 18 months away. Usually when a trade for players like Harden, Lillard, Irving, PG13 etc. occurs the deal centers around ONE proven young future talent and draft picks. Who do you think the young talent is that the Mavs could throw into such a trade? Josh Green. As our team stands right now, you better believe the other team would be asking for Brunson in such a trade anyway, unless you can present them with another viable option, which we currently do not have. So I think this helps winning basketball games in the long run. People always say let´s make a big deal like Philly, Clippers, Celtics etc., but these teams often dip into previously collected assets. We always blow our own whole future load and then we have to wait for two years for the picks to convert before we can go again. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Branduil - 05-09-2022 At this point fantasizing about a Brunson trade we automatically lose is really weird to me. It's not on the same level obviously but it's similar to fantasizing about how many draft picks trading Luka could get us. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Jommybone - 05-09-2022 If Brunson WANTS to leave (and he sure doesn’t look or sound disgruntled), it won’t be for the Wiz or the Hornets or the Pistons. I highly doubt it would be for that mess of a franchise known as the Knicks either. But maybe if they’re hiring Jay Wright. Just seems strange when there is no hint that Brunson wants to leave, and I can't imagine a reason he would want to go to Wiz. You seem so focused on that big trade for a star, yet you bemoan how bad this team is at making moves like this. Are we really in that much hurry for another KP debacle? Given the high level this team is playing right now, I'm not sure that mega trade is necessary. I definitely don't think it makes sense to break this team up just to collect some assets in the hope of making a big trade that wont be the disaster the last couple of big trades were. My problem with the roster is the salary allocation. They obviously need another playable big as well. The Mavs have guys that fit well in the right role but are overpaid for what that role is; THJ, Dinwiddie, Bertans, Powell It's a product of poor talent acquisition through the draft. In an ideal world, a couple of those guys are on rookie deals and then then whole roster situation looks totally different. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - michaeltex - 05-09-2022 Given the excitement after the last two wins in DAL, is there a success level (short of the championship) where you try to keep the team together rather than sell of parts looking for upgrades? I'm thinking of how ATL had the unexpected run to the ECF and basically brought everyone back, only to make it in as an 8th seed and lose badly in the first round. Worried that recent success might make it emotionally difficult to try and upgrade. I think that's an issue with Cuban getting personally close to the players, he needs the emotional buffer to make the right personnel decisions. There are certainly examples like ATL where management overvalues the existing roster because they overachieved. There are also examples like the 2012 Mavericks where management, perhaps, undervalues the roster, and isn't willing to pay to keep them. It's a guessing game. Sometimes you're right, and sometimes you're wrong. ATL, apparently, was wrong. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Kammrath - 05-09-2022 (05-09-2022, 11:38 AM)michaeltex Wrote: Given the excitement after the last two wins in DAL, is there a success level (short of the championship) where you try to keep the team together rather than sell of parts looking for upgrades? Fantastic question. I could 100% seeing the Mavs making the decision ATL did last year: "We are so young that the most progress we will make will be by internal growth and development." I personally think the Mavs need to make some significant moves still. I think bringing back the band would be a mistake. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | DAL would have "significant interest" in Gobert - Smitty - 05-09-2022 Wouldn't you be adding a proven playoff performer in THJ? |
