RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | Mavs "very active" looking for shooting | Hield? - Chicagojk - 02-10-2022 (02-10-2022, 08:59 AM)Kammrath Wrote: I am just glad that Nico is getting involved with weak players with a weak hand. The Mavs obviously have coveted assets (1sts, DFS, JB, etc), they just aren't going to use them for players that aren't actually that good (like LeVert). I think we talk about having a good negotiator, and that is important. But the most important thing to me is can you identify and evaluate talent? And can you understand how all the pieces fit together? That is the million dollar question. There is really no way to know. Some people have been in the league forever and when they get the chance, they blow it. Others can pick it up relatively quickly. We will see. To me, how they have done it in the past wasn't working. So hopefully it is much different now. Less Cuban is always a good strategy. You can't keep him out entirely, but hopefully he is not driving the bus on talent acquisition targets. As long as Mavs resign Brunson, THJ will likely not be a starter anymore. His minutes might be quite limited. Summer is likely better timing to move him, though RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | Mavs "very active" looking for shooting | Hield? - Chicagojk - 02-10-2022 (02-10-2022, 09:09 AM)Jym Wrote: Those Dinwiddle shooting numbers are so horrendous. I hope we don't touch him. I would pass on him as well. He seems to play best when he has the ball in his hands. That won't work playing with Luka imo. It could with Jalen, but I prefer Jalen as the better player. Plus, I am not sure he is in our closing lineups so I stay patient until I found a player who could finish for me. Dinwiddle just feels like one of those guys who puts up solid stats but doesn't impact winning. Hardaway is hurt and has been disappointing this year. But between the two, I stick with the known. His contract is lower and year shorter than THJ, last year also not fully guaranteed. He is not injured, so he helps now. He would not cost an asset to bring. He can be used in a trade in the summer as well as THJ, probably easier, as he is owed less money. I see him as bench PG, playing something like 20 minutes per game. Not closing. Summer is likely better timing to move him, though Good point, if you think there isn’t then you’re better off moving on quickly but I hope & think it’s not that bad yet with him even in a smaller role. Imo his shot just left him the same way it happened for a lot of other guys earlier in the year (especially Bullock). I think he is greatly overpaid for that smaller role. Waste of assets that should go to upgrades at other positions RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | Mavs "very active" looking for shooting | Hield? - soog - 02-10-2022 (02-10-2022, 09:12 AM)JamesConway912 Wrote: Thx for clearing that up, I didn’t listen to it myself. No to Dinwiddie but regarding THJ, I think that the perception of him will change significantly when he is getting kid $16M in the last year of his contract and the salary cap is even higher. That being said, the biggest argument for moving him now is the opportunity cost of that $20M contract. I don’t think it’s actually all that bad for what he does, but the Mavs don’t lose a lot if he is moved given what other players are doing with his minutes. So the question isn’t whether he is a good or bad contract, the question is whether the Mavs could get a better return by investing that $20M elsewhere. I think the problem with KP is the same thing. Overall his numbers are actually pretty good this year, BUT the Mavs aren’t much worse with him off of the court. So what is the opportunity cost of having over $50M invested in KP and THJ? In the past, “plan powder” came at the expense of team performance. In this case, I don’t think the team suffers greatly if you turn their contracts into “dry powder”. While I actually like both of them a lot and don’t think they deserve the level of hate they get, I’d be all for moving them just for the sake of moving them. There are also combinations of Warren, Thompson or McConnel, but two of them are injured. Or are Mavs just looking to dump THJ for expiring Rubio? Clippers have gazillion of possible contracts. He can be used in a trade in the summer as well as THJ, probably easier, as he is owed less money. This is my thinking also. If you are sending out injured THJ, you have to send him to a team that doesn’t care about winning this season. Washington fits that. Bench PG is the role and is arguably a bigger need than what THJ provides. One more thing to add about contract length. He’s only partially guaranteed in 23-24 if he plays under a certain number of games this season and next. He could turn $23mm in salary into $10mm at next year’s TDL. Seems odd the Clippers would want THJ and his longterm contract though. RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | Mavs "very active" looking for shooting | Hield? - Okstate819 - 02-10-2022 Rubio and Torrey Craig for THJ makes some sense. Having Rubio's bird rights might mean something next offseason. Hield still the most logical target on IND. On the Clips, just not Morris. But I don't think they are willing to pay even more tax, which is where it gets complicated. I would love to get RoCo, but I think he can't get aggregated. Kennard and Ibaka is approximately neutral value, perhaps also Batum to decrease tax. Morris perhaps? RE: ROSTER TALK: $10.87M TPE | Mavs shopping THJ...LAC? I actually think the look is much less bad with the injury. If we sign him to the cheap deal and then trade him right away because he is not playing well (or worse to take advantage of the signing) that is not good, but he is out the rest of the year and we are trying to make a push. I think the optics are better in that case. |
