How? I guess you could move on from THJ. Who do you target for something in that financial neighborhood. Fournier is available. Norman Powell may be. Do they fit the bill? I don’t think that is enough money for the elder statesmen PG’s or Ball. What is left? I don’t disagree that we could use someone who is a better secondary creator than THJ. But, who and how? And, as we’ve seen twice now, how do we know they will fit any better than Hardaway? This was presented as a source saying there might be interest. The way I read the story was that Turner and Mavs have some mutual interest which would not be surprising. I didn't read anything that would lead me to believe Indy would have interest in a Mavs deal. Maybe they do maybe they don't. That's a fun frontcourt that could really blossom playing with Doncic. I like Markkanen in a vacuum altho I think if you get Turner I don't think you need LM so much. That being said if you got him for J Rich I would do that every time. Speaking of J Rich trades - how about Nurkic for J Rich? I think CJ is a better player but they have the same problem of how do they get better a player than CJ in any deal? Maybe if they did CJ for an RFA S&T? I think KP is an option but their defense needs to get a lot better. Dame, Powell, RoCo is a good pairing. Maybe they would have interest in Turner? If KP was good at defense I think they'd definitely be interested in him. Sabonis would be interesting if they wanted to try to pair Sabonis with Dame. From the Mavs angle I am not sure I'd want to give up Kleber and I don't know if Nurkic would be a guaranteed starter here. Just trading KP for CJ straight up though would be a win for me. I would definitely do that. Charlotte might be interested in giving something up for Nurkic. Raptors also need a starting center. I think KP is an option but their defense needs to get a lot better. Getting rid of CJ and replacing him with Powell will improve their defense quite a bit. I've seen some stats on social media how bad McCollum's defense was in the Nuggets series and it was kinda eye popping bad, but I can't confirm it. They really kinda had two fatal flaws ... a) No one in their backcourt can guard. b) No one in their front court can score. CJ for KP at least balances it out a little bit. Powell is a good defender for a 2 guard because he's very long, but probably a little undersized as a wing, imho. And if KP is providing more offensive firepower then you can maybe live with DJJ as a defensive specialist starter. But when RoCo and DJJ were their starting wings with Nurkic as their center, it was offensive death (which is why they traded for Powell and playing 83 year old Melo an insane amount of minutes). Conversely, Mavs could probably live with McCollum's horrendous perimeter defense if they had a better big than KP behind him . RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 06-04-2021 (06-04-2021, 08:03 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: I'm with you on this. I am with you fellas. Honestly I am not big on this LM/Turner frontcourt ppl seem to be grabbing onto. That doesn't seem like an ideal pairing to me. If Mavs get Turner then they are already in pretty good shape with Turner/Powell/Maxi. I would like at least one legit big wing. Batum would be amazing - where did this guy come from? He looked washed up for years in Charlotte. Ball-mover and big wing would be my primary objectives. In a KP trade its possible you solve 2/3 things you need. I think for ball-mover even Goran Dragic gives Luka enough relief to sit out a few minutes during a playoff game. We all like TJ McConnell as an option, there are others out there but it's clear that Mavs do not have a secondary playmaker. I think the non-THJ money (or part of the KP trade) needs to be devoted to solving this problem even more than finding a big wing. There are enough *discount* wings in the marketplace that I think you can find something suitable if you have to. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 06-04-2021 (06-04-2021, 08:42 AM)HanspardsShowerVoice Wrote: Getting rid of CJ will improve their defense quite a bit. CJ for KP (and moving Powell to a long 2 guard) at least balances it out a little bit. Ya I suppose especially if they add some more defense to their starting lineup. I bet they could get Aminu or Harkless back pretty easily, both of them have played well for the Blazers in the past. I think if you have 2 athletic wings next to KP you can make his defense palatable. Another thing tho for ya'll to consider. Is Terry Stotts going to remain the coach? He and Rick I imagine are tight. Is Stotts not going to find out what a PITA KP is from Rick? He might already know. But ya on paper a KP/CJ shakeup could appeal to the Blazers. For Mavs rotations would be something like: Luka/Brunson CJ/THJ DFS/Green Maxi/FA wing Powell/WCS?/Bobi? At this point I would really consider moving Brunson for Mitchell Robinson: Luka/J Rich? CJ/THJ DFS/Green Maxi/FA wing Robinson/Powell RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - HanspardsShowerVoice - 06-04-2021 Also another thing about the Blazers defense ... Kanter had to play a lot of minutes in the regular season with Nurk battling injuries. Also played a lot in a few games in the playoffs because Nurk fouled out. His contract is up and they will probably let him walk. Just replacing him with a cheap middle of the road defensive role big would probably upgrade their defensive rather significantly, just because Kanter is sooooo bad. Maybe Maxi might be appealing for them in that regard in a trade. Actually I think the DJJ + CJ --> KP + Maxi trade makes a lot of sense for both teams. DJJ is kind of a JAG, I would probably rather have Nurkic than DJJ. Nurkic would fill a roll the Mavs haven't really had which is a classic big body, rebound guy. Mavs have run into problems from time to time with all their tweener bigs getting bullied in some matchups. DJJ is useful as a defensive wing specialist as long as you don't have multiple bad offensive players on the floor with him. Really not that much different from JRich. Yeah, the follow up would be signing a big body big in free agency, of which there should be plenty available and relatively affordable. Zeller, Drummond, Lopez, Theis, Willy H. etc. Or you could see if you could chase Holmes depending on what THJ resigns for and leaves you with. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 06-04-2021 The DJJ/CJ ideas I think carry water as long as Nurkic is moved as well. No way that Portland is thinking of pairing those two together. Also, no one has mentioned that Dallas has already shown pretty strong interest in DJJ in the past (unless I missed that and in that case my bad). |
