RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Jason Terry - 04-19-2021 (04-19-2021, 05:13 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: I think that depends on how good he does in the playoffs this year. Although, that prospect is looking less likely lately. On to KP/Powell for Holmes/Bagley/Hield? No. I still think the FRP made the deal fair. KP is a better player than either Turner or Brogdon, and we're including Brunson to (over)balance the deal. Turner and Brogdon both have injury concerns. That still seems like an overpay to include Brunson and I would not do it. I think you could do Josh Richardson/KP for Brogdon/Turner or you could take a salary back I think Brunson is the Mavs second best player, I would not move him in that deal. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Tunesquad23 - 04-19-2021 Yay! A week before my 1st baby is born! Hopefully it will be a good offseason & they get some better players. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - loki - 04-19-2021 Personally I don't think KP has enough value to return Brogdon or Turner alone, much less both. They are on more favorable contracts, better defenders, and aren't 7'3" with bad knees. I'm becoming more open to the idea though of a prospect/pick(s) package, followed by targeting some younger players in free agency. It would be a step back in the short term, but that may be necessary at this point. It feels like the team is more than a piece or two away and needs to be re-structured. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - chaparral - 04-19-2021 If (if) we are trading KP this offseason I would look to ORL or OKC. Both teams have 2 FRP's. As it stand right now ORL has #4 & #8 and OKC has #5 & #16. Any chance ORL would do #8, S&T OPJ and Carter for KP? Probably not, but there are lots of options you could do w/the Magic. How about OKC - # 5 & Horford for KP? Maybe #16 + 2023 FRP & Horford for KP? It wouldn't make sense for them to trade Vuc for picks only to turn those into KP. Can't see any interest from them. I don't think OKC would be interested either. They have infinite picks and all the time in the world. Why risk anything on an injury prone player like KP? I would look at teams trying to win now like Charlotte and Washington. New Orleans or Golden State could be options, but I'm sure they would prefer to move him out of the conference. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Kammrath - 04-19-2021 (04-19-2021, 08:38 PM)loki Wrote: I'm becoming more open to the idea though of a prospect/pick(s) package, followed by targeting some younger players in free agency Yes, this is the BEST thing about the Mavs having space this offseason. They can basically burn it down if they want to. I personally would liquidate KP into picks and prospects and do a more organic build and development of talent around Luka. I don't think that kind of team would be any worse than the current version. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - ItsGoTime - 04-20-2021 (04-19-2021, 11:05 PM)loki Wrote: It definitely has among other fanbases. Let's hope that isn't true of the people actually calling the shots.I think that was true when he was at his worst this season and trade rumors were flying around twitter. Since then he’s looked a heck of a lot better. A good playoff run and staying healthy and I believe he’ll have rebuilt his value. Those 2 things aren’t given, so if all he’s gonna return is what you’re saying then I’d be completely fine with keeping him. At that point we for sure should just retool around his strengths and weaknesses. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - ItsGoTime - 04-20-2021 If KP’s value isn’t at or above what we paid for him, I want to keep him and build a team that makes up for his and Luka’s weaknesses as they are to this point. Luka’s biggest “weaknesses” are his inability to sustain high level of play for the whole season and defending his counterpart...the point of attack. Solution is more play makers and distributors and point of attack defenders (more and/or better). I think Ball and esp Brogdon fit that need the best. There are a few lesser name versions out there like Korkmaz and Satoransky, I even think Bogdanovic could still be that guy for us (he hasn’t shown much in Atl, but he was good in Sac). Would love to see up and coming names that fit that bill and might be gettable. KP’s biggest “weaknesses” are his mobility on defense and defending bigger players. Solution is either a big bodied, mobile 4 OR a big bodied, mobile 5. I’ve been on the Turner train for a couple years because of this need (Favors for longer than Turner). My biggest want as a 4 option WAS Marcus Morris until last playoffs, now I’m wanting to know who is the up and coming version of him. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - dirkfansince1998 - 04-20-2021 I really like the KP to New Orleans idea. Send out KP and Burke. Add Ball, Hart and Adams. Ball 4/80-90 (20m first year) Hart 3/30-35 (10m first year) Adams 2/35 (current contract, will make 17.1m next season) No THJ, JRich, WCS Would leave the Mavs with 12-16m in capspace and the rE. Enough to offer another contract in the 4/70 range. I agree KP makes a lot of sense for them. I am also playing for a while with an idea of Sacramento. They are a franchise absolutely depserate for a positive story. They just have to make playoffs. Fox already signed an extension and the clock started to tick. Haliburton might be a nice player but he is not ready to be a star yet. So KP becomes that budding star to Fox. The prize I would want back would be Haliburton and a 2021 FRP. The problem is what else as they have to send salaries out to make it work. I don't want Barnes and I don't think Luka-Hield backcourt would work for same reasons Luka-THJ doesn't. He is just not good enough defensively. If he would accept a 6th man role, he would be great, but he made it clear he wants to start. Holmes SnT would be great, but can't be done on draft night. And we can sign him anyway if he wants to come as he is UFA. Bagley would make it work but I am not enthusiastic. But for lack of better ideas I will stay with this. After the move Mavs have a lottery level pick and around 45 mil of cap space. I would lock my PG/SG rotation with Luka, Haliburton, Brunson and Green. Draft best available player on positions SF, PF or C. Sign three legit starters with the cap space. Taking care of starting center and especially wings. Might be enough for all of Holmes, OPJ, Olynik, Theiss. Luka, Brunson Haliburton, Green OPJ, DFS Olynik, Maxi Holmes, Theis, +Bagley (would flip him to a rebuilding team for a more established player) + Sac pick somewhere on positions 3-5 RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Kammrath - 04-20-2021 (04-20-2021, 06:35 AM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: I really like the KP to New Orleans idea. Last year things were a lot more fluid. In fact, I was frustrated with changing starting lineups last year depending on matchups. Although looking where we are now, I think I would prefer some experimenting. Especially considering our slow starts. I don't think our starting lineup can be counted on to consistently get us off to good starts. Especially when defenses tighten up in the playoffs or in important games. I am all about that starting with trying the THJ/Powell lineup that the Mavs used last year before Powell was injured. If Mavs' defense is going to stink either way, let's fix the offense. Mavs also need to evaluate what they have before the offseason. |
