RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - vfromlmf - 03-22-2021 One more point on player age for context. Fournier turned 28 earlier this year. Mavs traded for JET when he was 27. I’m not sure that the Mavs would want to use that much $$$ on players that overlap that much unless you think you can near rotate to near constantly keep 2 on the floor at a time. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - vfromlmf - 03-22-2021 I don’t think you can have too many versatile wings. JRich, DFS, THJ, Fournier is a solid group of veteran guard/forwards that would allow the Mavs to switch everything and play big or small. You have defense, shooting, a little playmaking and stone-cold professional scoring. You can certainly play three of them together at various points and I can even see all four on the floor together with KP for short stretches. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 03-22-2021 (03-22-2021, 08:47 PM)DrMav Wrote: I’m not sure that the Mavs would want to use that much $$$ on players that overlap that much unless you think you can near rotate to near constantly keep 2 on the floor at a time. Fournier can run pick and roll when Luka goes to the bench. JRich and THJ can't really do that. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - HAguiar95 - 03-22-2021 How about trading for Harrell? Lakers seem to have involved him on some rumors. Is he available? As the 3rd big behind KP/Maxi. His defense is suspect, but his offense is undeniable. Mavs: Harrell Lakers: ? Tanking team: Green + Powell. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - DrMav - 03-22-2021 I guess the other question beyond whether or not they will all fit together (they might but I’m still not sure) is whether all 3 will happily resign as FAs RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - F Gump - 03-22-2021 (03-22-2021, 06:45 PM)vfromlmf Wrote: I reserve the right to change my mind but if I were GM and had to make a decision on the spot I'm dealing James Johnson and a 2nd for Evan Fournier. I think ORL is looking for a 1st at least for Fournier. Not saying they'd get that, but a 20ppg guy that's shooting a solid 45/38/80 seems like he's worth around that level of return. I think Josh Green is close enough though. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - vfromlmf - 03-22-2021 (03-22-2021, 09:36 PM)F Gump Wrote: One problem - is this going to satisfy what ORL would want? It all depends on whether or not the Magic intend to resign him this summer. I doubt he's in their plans. Fournier's market price will be set by a win-now team and it's likely to be more than the Magic are willing to pay. FWIW - I think THJ's deal will be similar. Is expiring JJ and a 2nd the best ORL can get now? Maybe. The price can't get too outrageous if they want to move him and get an asset in return. There are a limited number of viable suiters and similar players like Oubre and Powell are reportedly also on the market, not to mention Gordon and Barnes. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - SkenfromLMF - 03-22-2021 I get the suspicion that Dallas keeps Cleveland engaged in trade talks with the goal of driving up the price so that Cleveland does not let him walk to a WC team. I can live with Drummond going to the Nets (though Harden going long stretches with less talent available than Houston amuses me), but IF he were to sign with one of the LA teams (especially the Clipps) I would begin the process on some ulcers. I think Donnie is trying to keep Drummond in play just to keep assets away from the teams in front of us. Chris Arnold is of the mindset that JJ is here to keep teams honest in how they play Luka without losing KP. So using his logic, IF Dallas trades Johnson they would have to find a Montrez Harrell type to provide the enforcer effect against Morris et al. I think Donnie is trying to keep Drummond in play just to keep assets away from the teams in front of us. I don't think the idea that Dallas is trying to "drive up the price" on Drummond is accurate at all. I think everyone except Dallas is only interested in Drummond if he's bought out. I think Dallas is only halfway talking to CLE about Drummond, and they're only interested if they see a looming need for cap room in 2021 (in which case, it's Powell and Johnson for Drummond. Or thereabouts.). CLE will wait for Dallas - that's better for the Cavs than buying him out - and Dallas is looking for better deals as well as to see if Collins stays in ATL (which would create a potential use for having the cap room). Johnson does have value as an enforcer, if one is needed. NO ONE would mess with him - he's the NBA's baddest bad azz. His presence literally defuses an opponent's desire to cross the line. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - vfromlmf - 03-23-2021 "According to a source, Evan Fournier has made it clear that he has no intention to re-sign with the Magic as a free agent this summer, so Orlando might as well get something in return for a player efficiently averaging 19.1 points per game." - MacMahon, ESPN RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - DanSchwartzgan - 03-23-2021 Hawks insulted by Mavs’ offer for John Collins
The Hawks, who were reportedly initially open to moving starting forward John Collins, now appear reluctant to do so, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. With the team racking up wins, they believe that dealing one of their key players away could mess with the team’s chemistry, especially with the playoffs approaching. Getting wins is also the Hawks’ top priority, and with the Hawks getting it done on the court, a move that could change at the trade deadline has become increasingly unlikely. But Haynes added that another reason why Atlanta is leaning towards keeping Collins has been the underwhelming offers made by teams inquiring about the 23-year-old forward. One team that reportedly proposed a deal is the Dallas Mavericks, which was focused on center Maxi Kleber. While the other players and assets included in the deal remain unclear, what is certain is that the Hawks weren’t impressed and turned down the offer. With a 22-19 record and holding the eighth spot in the Western Conference, the Mavericks could indeed be a team looking to add more talent at the trade deadline in preparation for a playoff run. But to do that, they either need to include more in a potential deal involving Collins or look elsewhere in acquiring players as the deadline approaches. In 42 games this season, Collins is averaging 18.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for the Hawks, and will be an important part of the team’s if they choose to keep him past the trade deadline. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins, AG, Norman Powell - DanSchwartzgan - 03-23-2021 (03-23-2021, 07:46 AM)vfromlmf Wrote: "According to a source, Evan Fournier has made it clear that he has no intention to re-sign with the Magic as a free agent this summer, so Orlando might as well get something in return for a player efficiently averaging 19.1 points per game." - MacMahon, ESPN Mavs discussing package for Magic’s Evan Fournier
The Orlando Magic are reportedly expected to deal Evan Fournier to another team ahead of the trade deadline on March 25. The Dallas Mavericks have expressed their interest and are willing to send veteran forward James Johnson along with two second-round draft assets in exchange for the Frenchman Quote:“It seems more likely than ever Orlando may move Gordon before Thursday’s deadline, but Evan Fournier and his $17 million expiring contract is an even better bet to be traded. The Mavericks have been the loudest rumored team for Fournier, with one potential package being James Johnson and two second-round picks, according to league sources.” Fournier remains to be a valuable contributor for the Magic as he is currently averaging 19.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists through 24 games played. However, he was recently slowed down after sustaining a groin injury back in early March. He is currently playing in the last season of his five-year, $85 million contract signed with the Magic back in 2016. Fournier’s potential relocation to the Mavericks will be helpful for Luka Doncic who is still lacking pieces in his supporting cast. On the other hand, Johnson is only averaging a meager output of 5.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks through 29 appearances. The Mavericks’ draft assets will certainly help the Magic in their rebuilding efforts as they are currently struggling with a 14-28 record for the 14th spot in the Eastern Conference. It remains to be seen where Evan Fournier will land in the coming days but his potential relocation to the Mavericks is looking promising as the team continues to aim for a playoff spot in the stacked Western Conference this season. They could use a guy like KP and have some assets the Mavs could use to win-now, all while adding to their war chest of yound players on Docnic's timeline. KP + Johnson + Powell + Iwundu --> Bulls OPJ + Young + Markannen + WCJ + 1st --> Mavs OPJ is expiring; Young is as well plus he's your starting C for the playoffs; One of Markannen or WCJ is your young player with upside (similar to DSJ); The other is equivalent to a first; and the 2021 Bulls pick satisfies the general construct that brought KP to Dallas in the first place (expiring, young player, 2 firsts). On the Bulls side they get KP and take on Powell's money and a rotation player similar to the Mavs taking on THJ's perceived bad contract and Burke. If Mavs landed him for just JJ and a 2nd that would be a fantastic upgrade for cheap. You would have his bird rights so you could conceivably keep all 3 of THJ, Fournier, Rich but more likely you will keep 2 of the 3 you like the best and maybe get a guy on a 1 yr MLE. |
