RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: Mavs might be done until later in the off-season - DanSchwartzgan - 08-06-2021 (08-06-2021, 06:01 AM)Branduil Wrote: I like the idea, the only problem is Dipo already signed a 1-year deal with Miami. Well, that is a bit of an issue with regard to the specific name. Hopefully the rest of the post further developed some ideas around the use of that space. The issue with LM is Chicago has already shown a willingness to pay him $9mm with the QO. They are pretty thin in the front court with Tony Bradley the only real center behind Vuc. Patrick Williams plays the 3 and the 4. If you assume he's the full time four and the three is covered by DeRozan/Brown, then without LM, they have a hole at backup PF also. So, there is a reason to bring him back and they are far enough below the tax that they can offer something in the mid teens. All that to say, Dallas probably can't just absorb him into the TPE. It would probably be under the cap and we'd have to send back some players. It isn't hard to imagine Chicago being fine with WCS. But, filling in some of their need at backup PF starts to get a bit painful as we only have two of those and both are fan favorites. That amount of space is enough to make Powell plus Burke a legal trade (note that the $5mm trade spread doesn't get you there). This is a significant wrinkle in the Dragic conversation. This is super interesting. Thanks for this! Looking at the lineup above, I wonder if Paul Millsap would be a intriguing stop gap solution. Millsap has been a favorite of mine for the past few offseasons as someone who interests me. Maybe he is a little too old now and would need to think more if I would prefer the younger WCS to him. My hope is we would find someway to get Lauri and Dragic. Getting one may be a long shot, much less two. As others have mentioned, I am really confused that we went into this offseason with very little ball creators and limited PF types and someway may be starting the next year even thinner at both spots. That is hard to accomplish. I can't believe that was the goal. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: Mavs might be done until later in the off-season - david75090 - 08-06-2021 Possible free agents from the Olympics. Thanks for this! Trying to find a good use for this information... Powell plus Terry plus space of $5.38mm is a fit for Rozier. It fits by $70,000 which gives a little wiggle room for minor errors in the "cheat sheet" you and Clutch posted (thanks for enlarging it as it was hard to read otherwise). There has to be a reason Sterling was signed to such a specific number. Charlotte isn't bringing Rozier back a year from now. They have plenty of guards between Ball, Bouknight, Graham and now Oubre. Rozier fits fairly well with what we need and there is a path to retaining him if Brunson were to leave. This is interesting. Did not think about the possibility of still operating under the cap. The name I could see this relating to is Reggie Jackson. White is getting squeezed with Chi’s new toys! Oh, another tid-bit, that defense thing with Nico? I think that is another reason he is playing hardball with Tor. Dragic doesn’t fit the 2-way player mold, so Nico can take him if the price is right and $19M isn’t that. I always thought it was a little strange that Sterling's contract was not for the full BAE amount if that's the slot he's destined for. But if you think of his $3mm as about half the rMLE it maybe makes a little more sense. That could lend credence to the idea that the cap space is being used elsewhere and one more small piece can get the other half of the rMLE after that. BTW, I wonder if they might be saving a little space for one of their multi-year minimum offers if one of the undrafted guys blows them away in camp. I don't think anyone can "steal" him without offering significantly more.
