Bucks can't trade a 1st till 2024. Yeah they are trading it for Graham lol. Then there was the one a page back about 76ers posturing to make a move for Buddy. Go check that guys bio. I'm extremely tempted to go create a twitter account and start claiming to be an insider and see if one of you fools will start posting me. This argument is making me crazy. There's no such thing as "plan powder." It doesn't exist. Nobody is arguing for it to exist. It's a dumbass phrase that Fish made up, for some reason, that kind of described what the Mavs did for a few years after the championship. Even then, it was pretty silly and emblematic of everything that was ridiculous about that site, but at least back then it represented something. What they're doing now is nothing like what they were doing then. Like, not remotely close. No similarity, whatsoever. I honestly don't know why people keep using that phrase...I guess just to troll us? They signed people last season, remember? They're probably kicking the tires on all sorts of options right now, BUT, they're trying to keep the option of 2021 alive. A team with Luka, KP (on a freaking max!!) and others is not "powder." There's no way to strike out and be left with nothing. "ATTA" is literally just "run your team well." How is that a plan? It's not. Ok, I've got one: My new plan is "WCWWHL" or "Win Championships While We Have Luka." RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & FA (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - Kammrath - 11-09-2020 (11-09-2020, 10:32 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: "ATTA" is literally just "run your team well." How is that a plan? It's not. You say that because you are actually an ATTA guy yourself. There are other ways of team building. ATTA is only one way and it hinges mostly on using the trade market to acquire what you need. It isn't "The Process" of tanking for 1-3 picks, it isn't "Plan Powder" of clearing room and trying to wine and dine the best free agents, etc. It is about accumulating assets through free agency and the draft, but realizing that using those assets in trades for the pieces you ultimately need is the key. I am team ATTA right NOW because the Mavs have Luka. Without Luka I would probably be inclined to superstar hunt in the draft ("The Process"), but that's just me. How is that a plan? It's not. Ok, but even if you're tanking, or going the cap space route (or planning to go the cap space route in the future) you're still trying to get good players on even better deals. That's called "pro sports." Luka is the precise reason it's so incredibly important NOT to have mediocre players on bad contracts around here for the next few years. Once he signs his extension, you're locked in, unless you trade Porzingis and maybe a few others, which will essentially be starting over, in a way. Luka won't be happy about doing that when he's 25, I don't think. I can't adequately express the level of concern I have that the fanbase of THIS team, who just watched absolutely ABYSMAL team building almost ruin Dirk Nowitzki's career, seem so eager to sign up for another helping of it. I'm changing teams: My new plan is "Do Everything The Opposite Of How You Did It When Nash And Dirk Were Young" (DETOOHYDIWNADWY). I don't even care what any of you think about this anymore. Just please, please...if you ever enjoyed anything I ever posted, as a favor, please stop typing "plan powder" in places where I'll have to read it. I'm begging. It's one thing to post ideas from other sites. That's great and all. But this Hawks guy is a bit much. Any idiot can claim to be an NBA insider. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - Scott41theMavs - 11-10-2020 We're going to know the large outline of what the Mavs' roster for next season looks like by next Saturday. That's pretty cool. Hope Dan caught that about the transaction window, including opt-ins and opt-outs etc., will be before the draft. It would be huge for the Mavs if they could trade THJ on draft day. I'm not sure I believe either is going anywhere, but it would open up more doors if moving them is part of the plan. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - SleepingHero - 11-10-2020 Really curious as to who they hire for the assistant coach/offensive coordinator position to replace Silas. One of my favorite candidates would've been Steve Nash but he took the Nets job. Not really sure who's left given all the coaching movement. "You don't have to clear the decks, but you have to stay within easy striking distance." I agree but I think they are already in striking distance with Wright's deal which they will be eager to unload. With cap tightening/uncertainty I don't think they will take chances really. My they will draft a guy if they really like him which adds a little bit of money. But I don't think the Mavs want to get too cute with using up cap space. MBT definitely plays conservative. Yes could they give away a Maxi or Seth or whatever in 2021? Sure they would do that but then you just gave away a good player maybe for 10 cents on the dollar bc you made an error the previous season. Part of the pitch to Giannis is the supporting cast as well. Here is your 2 stars Luka, KP, championship coach and solid supporting cast of players. "You don't have to clear the decks, but you have to stay within easy striking distance." Not confirmed. This comes from a Woj tweet "Talks on opening the NBA’s transaction window — trades, contract opt-ins and outs, etc. — are progressing toward firming a date two or three days prior to the November 18 draft, sources tell ESPN". That's a pretty wide net. You could have trades and the earliest opt-in/opt-out dates starting the 15th and 16th and still have the final deadline for THJ be the 19th. But, the wording also leaves open the possibility of all options being due at the same time as trades are allowed. Time will tell. The other thing that came out last night is the 21 cap will be at least $112.4mm. If Hollinger is correct on who we take/stash at 18, that saves another $1.6mm. If we trade Wright for air, use part of the MLE on our second rounder and WCS opts in, we are there with a Powell S/W. We can also get there with no S/W and a trade of anyone making more than $6.3mm. I think you make a great point about retaining depth as we (potentially) save space for GA. Back to Powell, if he is deemed tradable a year from now (even if it takes a future pick) and #31 is used in the Wright deal, we'd still have about $4.6mm in space to use on a multi-year basis in 2020. That would make us competitive for that class of guys between the minimum and the MLE. |
