RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & FA (Nov 21?) + Salary Chart | Season (Dec 22? 72 gms?) - DanSchwartzgan - 11-01-2020 (11-01-2020, 06:13 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: @"DanSchwartzman" when is the deadline for opt-in/out and when is the draft? I thought the opt-in deadline was before the draft? The standard is always after the draft. There are some players who contractually agreed to an earlier deadline. The league literally has to set a date for each player in this situation. WCS and THJ have standard opt out date contracts. My guess is it will be the 19th. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & FA (Nov 21?) + Salary Chart | Season (Dec 22? 72 gms?) - Tyler - 11-01-2020 (11-01-2020, 03:28 PM)omahen Wrote: What would be best would be to use Curry+Wright+pick. This move would make our cap hit neutral, so we are still just one Powell move from max cap space in 2021. We need to include pick because of the Wright contract. Perhaps 31 would be enough. I agree that swapping Curry + Wright for Bogdonavic (at the same money) would be ideal in terms of both cap space minutes. Curry to Sacramento makes sense, as he's a similar shooter on a much cheaper contract. Maybe Dallas could move Wright to a 3rd team and possibly get an asset to sweeten the pot for Sacramento. On a related note, has anyone heard any rumors about if/how Golden State plans to use that big Iggy trade exception before it expires? It seems to me they'd be happy to take a contract if it helps their bench. Even if he or anybody says they intend to opt-in that isn't going to work for a draft-night trade. That further solidifies the idea that draft night the guy getting traded is Wright + maybe filler (Jackson). One popular is A.Gordon for #2. Oubre +#10 for #2 makes a lot of sense for both teams. I thought the opt-in deadline was before the draft? The way I'd put it is THJ controls whether he is traded on draft night. The Mav's tried to do this with Monte a few years ago and he refused. The key (if they want to do this at all) is sending him somewhere he wants to be with an opportunity to secure his future. Winning team with an extension pre-negotiated...he probably says yes. No Korki or 2nd round pick. Give up DP, DFS and DW along with 18 and 31. Mavs would keep THJ... I liked the other one better. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & FA (Nov 21?) + Salary Chart | Season (Dec 22? 72 gms?) - MavsFan41ife - 11-01-2020 Why should Dallas give up DFS to take on a huge salary in Harris? He definitely did not earn that salary last season. I believe he would play better in Dallas and would probably thrive in the starting lineup as a stretch four, but doesn’t seem like a fair trade from my pov. Fewer bids for RFA's? Free Agency will be over during the two days money is tied up. How about unrestricted free agency This trades kinda work valuewise for me. But we are giving up assets to upgrade our SG backup. Bogi can't play SF. Luka, THJ, Bogi is even more aweful defensivly than Curry, THJ, Luka. THJ as benchpiece didn't work. We have specific needs - Bogi doesn"t help them, isn't enough of a differencemaker to be worth the effort and not enough of an asset. RFAs tend to be overpaid if they change teams. Assetwise or salarywise. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & FA (Nov 21?) + Salary Chart | Season (Dec 22? 72 gms?) - Mavsfan12 - 11-01-2020 Chiming in on the last 1.5 days of chatter... I don't see a scenario currently being discussed that would prompt the Mavs to voluntarily remove themselves from the possibility of signing GA outright. There isn't a team with cap room for '21 that gives him better teammates or chance to compete for championships than Dallas. This isn't plan powder... this is plan Luka/KP recruiting. KL has been dead on... this is the last chance to add a Luka/KP prime FA. It has to hit if this era is going to be all it can be. If '21 FA busts, then it is on to the JuHow plan of over the cap trades that incrementally make us better. The Harris trade is not something that would be considered in lieu of cap room... that is a deal you make over the cap. Honestly, it is a deal that will be available to be made every year remaining on that contract. The Bogi trade is interesting. I like the player, and at 15M, the contract isn't terrible. That said, I like Curry at 8M more than I like Bogi at 15M. Especially when thinking of adding another big player in '21... cap flexibility will be at a premium and having some nice value contracts will be important and if GA comes, Curry's shooting will be perfect. If Powell was outgoing, I would consider it, but I can't see Sac doing that. I would be reluctant to trade Curry/Maxi/DFS unless it was to be the last hurdle to bring in the star in '21. I feel that this will be an offseason that we don't shake things up that much. Pull in a rental or two - maybe solid vets. Draft a couple of wings with 3D potential. I would like to throw out a name that hasn't been talked about much, but could be a great value on an expiring deal. OPJ. If he has recovered from his injury, he would be amazing here. A really nice player who would be a terrific fit at SF here as a two way player. Not sure what it would take to get him - and we don't have a ton to offer that saves them money, long term, as OPJ is expiring. I am interested him as a player, though - actually moreso than Hayward. He would be able to push THJ to SG. Also, if he returns to form, he could be used at the TDL or offseason (as a snt) to acquire another player long term. Signing or trading for longterm contracts doesn´t mean that they won´t go after Giannis next year. They will have to clear capspace but depending on the players they add that shouldn´t be difficult. It is not necessary to enter free agency with a max slot as long as Giannis really wants to sign with the Mavs. That´s the only thing that matters. As long as they sign or trade for players on expiring deals with the sole purpose of having max capspace next summer it is still plan powder. Harris would mean they couldn't do that, and so many other things. Yes, VALUE contracts like the ones Curry, DFS and Kleber are on can be moved any time you want. To clear someone like Harris would require MAJOR assets and just the right (crazy) trade partner. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & FA (Nov 21?) + Salary Chart | Season (Dec 22? 72 gms?) - Mavsfan12 - 11-02-2020 (11-02-2020, 12:16 AM)KillerLeft Wrote:(11-02-2020, 12:08 AM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Signing or trading for longterm contracts doesn´t mean that they won´t go after Giannis next year. Exactly... add to it that if you want Harris, a trade for him could be available after adding the FA. If you add him first, you're basically done. Cap management. Also, I am not sure the Mavs would like Harris as a 3 with GA/KP... Just sayin' no at this point. I like harris, and his game. I don't like him as much as I would adding GA or an elite wing. If I had those players onboard, and I wanted to add him, its just Mark's money at that point. Go for it - he doesn't hurt you. Good guy, doesn't have to have the ball to be effective, rebounds, spaces the floor. He just isn't a plus defender and is DAMN expensive. Why? Miami needed to create more than 30 mio in caproom to sign Butler and they had no problem. Same for the Warriors when they signed KD. Would it require some assets to get rid of him if he doesn´t improve compared to the last season? Yes. Is it impossible? No. Let´s say Harris has a solid season and scores 18-20ppg/ shoots 38-40% from 3. That´s basically what he did in 2018 and 2019. He still has negative value because that´s not worth a max deal but add a few picks or good value contracts (Maxi, Seth, DFS) and the Mavs could easily do it. Personally I am not a fan of Harris as a player and just used him as an example for any longterm deal that might be available. Whatever Donnie and Cuban did in the last few years has changed the way we think. Based on Donnies/Marks history they won´t risk it but we as the fans can at least acknowledge that other options exist and teams don´t need a max slot to sign a big free agent as long as they are creative and smart. |
