RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - ClutchDirk - 02-23-2021 Lavine made the All-Star team... And ridding themselves of KP will make that even more true. It’s painful, but IF (emphasis on if) KP is a dead end, the team will be significantly better off dealing with that hard truth as soon as possible. To truly appreciate what it feels like for the team to be on a “Luka clock” just imagine KP’s contract runs out here and the team makes no progress during that time because they have no cap room and are unable to transform him into something usable. Imagine them needing to start over at that point, just 1-2 years before Luka’s REAL free agency happens. THAT is a clock. They have all the time on the world right now, comparatively. If KP is in the way (again, IF) then you deal with it at your first opportunity. That has nothing to do with a KP trade tbh, as he is the one with biggest money attached to him. If we keep KP, we will be with no cap space from now on too. Don't assume or expect patience from Luka. When was the last time and how many times it happened for a player that young player forced his way out before 6th season? Only one is KP, and we are fooling ourselves if we don't think it was the Knicks who just wanted cap space and didn't want to give him max contract anyway. I am not assuming anything with Luka, in fact I assume he won't be patient and for that I really want us to have a true contender by the end playoff) of his 5th season. And as I said, and @"KillerLeft" even explained better, if the team thinks KP is a dead end (and I am not saying he is one) then trading him to boost our trade assets is the right thing to do. Not just saying "only trade him for Beal/Lavine" of the world, since there teams unlikely to accept such trade. Other GMs don't suddenly forget his injuries, his long recovery times, the general injury history of players 7'3 and above.People act like two healthy weeks and a few 30/10 games will drastically move the needle in a positive direction. It wont. If anything he'll need two weeks to recover the trade value he has been losing the last week with trade rumours, team playing better without him, and most importantly him being injured AGAIN or faking it due the trade rumours. It's so depressing to see Lavine and Randle as Allstars when it was so obvious and they were just sitting there all the time. Skills, stats, age, poorly coached low talent teams, work ethic, upward trajectories each seaon, stopped by one major injury each. Was probably Cuban himself that wanted to sell me on this board that fn Powell is a better player than Randle 12 months ago.We don't need him we have Powell. Only All-star team Powell will ever see is Gleague or China. I'm listening to a Celtics podcast right now and they are comparing and contrasting Luka to Tatum and they are just bagging on the collection of "talent" we've assembled around Luka. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - Chicagojk - 02-24-2021 When we signed Boban, I viewed him as a specialty player. Maybe Rick is using him to him maximum efficiency, but boy does he produce when given the chance. Our backup centers are all specialty players and the skill Boban brings is unique to this team. I say let him prove to you he can't get consistent minutes. Maybe that is the outcome. But until that happens, throw him out there for 5 minute stretches with Luka and shooters and see what happens. Typically we get easy baskets and teams need to be aware of him. Defense will be a problem, but maybe you can get away with it for short stretches. And if he is getting easy baskets at the rim, does this outweigh the defensive issues. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - ItsGoTime - 02-24-2021 So, just wondering if anyone else would do this. First, lets get out of the way that I know you don't trade with Ainge, so no need for that post. KP/JRich/Burke for Walker/Smart/Theis straight up, no picks going either way I'm not positive I do it myself, but the prize in this trade is Smart. I think Walker is an expensive 25 mpg starting player resting on b2bs. Theis is the mobile C so many are clamoring for. Smart and Theis are young enough to be around for a bit. Walker/JB/TT Smart/THJ/Green Luka/DFS/Iwundu Kleber/Powell/JJ Theis/WCS/Boban Kleber, Theis and Walker, I think, would be better off the bench, so we're still looking for 3 starters for our championship team, but I think that team competes on offense and defense. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - Dahlsim - 02-24-2021 (02-24-2021, 07:56 AM)Chicagojk Wrote: When we signed Boban, I viewed him as a specialty player. Fixed. Quote:Maybe Rick is misusing him to him missing out on his maximum efficiency, There's no denying that there is huge matchup component causing this lack of minutes for Boban, but the problem results because offensively Boban has to be utilized so that the other teams has more defensive problems than the Mavs have when he is on the floor. If he is put out there and used in the offense/defense as simply a bigger WCS or Maxey, which is what RC usually does, that can make him look bad in matchups where he's being run at defensively all the time but not getting to go back at the opponent on the other side. To Carlisle's credit though, they did roll him well to the basket with Luka and position him inside around the rim for Luka to find him in this game and it paid off in a very positive Net + time on the floor. Luka + Boban offensively can be absolutely devastating for a defense to try and stop because Doncic completely knows how to find that Giant target or make you pay himself for trying to guard against him. The rebounding effect is great as well. As Stan Van Gundy stated though regarding Boban, NBA coaches think defense 1st so who can you guard is the question. Problem is the Mavs are usually not good defensively anyway at 5, especially with KP not coming back the same yet. So if your defense is going to be weak anyway ... RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - omahen - 02-24-2021 (02-24-2021, 10:11 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: KP/JRich/Burke for Walker/Smart/Theis straight up, no picks going either way Imho that is a lateral improvement at best. We know how KP and Luka work and at least on the offensive end, it works fine. We don't know how Luka/Walker would work. I don't think Smart is that much better than JRich. I really like our Brunson/JRich/THJ guard rotation. I think they complement eachother very nicely. With this trade you are basically replacing JRich with Smart and likely losing Brunson to Walker (not enough minutes to go around). Theis is nice but not really a difference maker. A lot of other bodies with more than vet min contracts at center (Powell, WCS, Bobi). So, unless you include what you get for Brunson, the trade is a no go for me. As I said in one of previous posts, I would be only interested trading KP in a three team trade that has the potential to make us better by reshaping the team. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - SleepingHero - 02-24-2021 (02-24-2021, 10:11 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: I think Walker is an expensive 25 mpg starting player resting on b2bs So we're trading 1 expensive 25 mpg starter that rests on b2bs for another that is invariably a much worse player? And we do that to get Marcus Smart and Dwight Powell's replacement? Listen I love me some Marcus Smart. He's a winning player. But he's also a flawed player that is more one-dimension that I'd like to be giving KP up for. Especially because he views himself as a much better scorer than he actually is. I don't think Smart is enough alone to even consider taking on Kemba who's been dealing with a lingering knee issue the last 1 1/2 seasons. Then add in us giving away KP in the deal and it's just way too much. Boston would have to replace Smart with Brown to make it even worth considering for me. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - HanspardShowerVoice - 02-24-2021 Not really entirely sure Kemba is better than Brunson right now, much less in the future. |
