RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - Branduil - 09-03-2020 Every single player you listed there is all offense and no defense. How do those moves help the Mavs contend? RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - cow - 09-03-2020 Griffin and Love are too old, too expensive and too injury prone. Hield should join the "always kills the Mavericks all-stars" along with Julius Randle. I think Jrue is a touch overrated and ticks the too old and too expensive boxes, but of those names I guess he'd be my preference. I'm not sure Giannis has it in him to leave the Bucks but I wonder what getting bounced by the heat will do to his thinking process. And even if he decides to leave, he's not gong to Dallas. No one ever comes here. I know it's different with Luka and maybe KP (his legs could as easily scare people off), but I'll believe it when I see it. I'd still keep my eye on the teams that have potential to blow-it up: Houston (does Harden finally ask to be traded and what are the ripple effects), Philly, Portland, Indiana(?), Orlando (?) RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - ClutchDirk - 09-03-2020 It’s no wonder many in league circles believe Miami and Toronto are the frontrunners in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, with one observer telling Yahoo Sports “it’s an open secret” within the Orlando bubble. It's just too hard to beat Miami in a recruiting battle if they have a good team. Attractive city and you don't have to deal with the LA scrutiny or the NY media. Just snatch all the young talent over the next 12 months and see what sticks. Acquire a couple of picks Kleber +18 for 14 +26 from Boston Curry for 21 Zhaire Smith from Philly Draft all the defensive guys: Patrick Williams, Tyler Bey, Jahmi´us Ramsey and Isaiah Stewart. Get rid of Wright and throw big money at Markkanen/Richardson next summer, plus some reclamation projects Ntilikina and Bonga. Doncic/Brunson/Ntilikina Richardson/Smith/Ramsey DFS/Williams/Bonga Markkanen/Bey/MKG Porzingis/Stewart/Powell You can count on the Euro 3 to get you 65-70 points every game and I´m sure Richardson/DFS/Brunson are good for another 25-30. So the thing is, getting your hands on a younger stud FA is tough bc a lot of guys don't hit FA until they're old. Best case scenario most of the time is you get a guy in FA towards the end of their 20s. A lot of the younger guys available have less upside, else they would have been locked up already. Trades are always a possibility, I still like Aaron Gordon as probably my favorite trade idea. But looking at the teams you listed most of the guys those teams would be dumping are older guys on big deals. That's just how it goes. Years on contracts matter a lot more than dollars. A guy on a 2 year contract is "cheaper" than a guy half the price on a 4 year contract in that you are locked into guaranteed dollars. So I don't care if someone is making 30+ for 2 years bc in 1 yr they are expiring and in 2 yrs they are completely off the books. I care ab talent. Some of these ideas out there are dumb. The Bulls are going to trade us Lauri Markkanen? Why would they do that? Teams are not going to trade us young lotto talent on rookie deals without a GREAT return. The ideas I have been throwing out there are mostly THJ + salary filler and maybe picks (in a very weak draft) to get someone in here who is more of a real 3rd option than THJ who is good, not amazing and not a real 3rd option on a contending team. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - ItsGoTime - 09-03-2020 (09-03-2020, 12:40 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: Trades are always a possibility, I still like Aaron Gordon as probably my favorite trade idea.I really like AG too, he's been discussed a lot so I haven't added to those with trade discussion. Only thing I'm thinking with him is I don't think he's the type of guy that has had that ultra toughness in him (to be able to give or take or both) which means we would need to get that at another position. His big wing position has the most opportunity to get someone like that. I also don't think he has the bulk to switch it up with KP and do well against the bigger guys in the league which I believe will help KP extend his ability to stay on the court. I could be wrong on that cause I haven't watched enough of him and don't know if he plays bigger than he is like Draymond or RoCo. (09-03-2020, 12:40 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: The Bulls are going to trade us Lauri Markkanen? Why would they do that?Articles from Chi are pretty down on Lauri. If their FO is as well, he can be had for less than you suggest. How much less? Who knows. Only recent trade I've suggested with us getting Lauri was where Chi gets KP. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - cow - 09-03-2020 Why would you trade Maxi for picks, especially considering our draft history? I'm not saying Maxi is untouchable but he's the kind of contract you'd lump into a bigger trade deal because he is an asset because of contract, age and progress as a player. Same for DFS and Curry to an extent. What if THJ opts out? I know getting another young player seems unlikely but a lot of the names mentioned just don't move the needle for me, then again this team has so many holes that most all of them would improve us, except Griffin. Maybe Giannis extends this off season and kills that pipe dream. Anyone up for CP3 rental (not even sure we could maneuver enough to fit him on the team)? I also see little to no chance we trade KP unless another superstar wants out and has Dallas as one of his destinations. I'm not sure this latest knee injury has soured the MBT. I do think we need to rethink the long term outlook of the Luka/KP pairing. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-03-2020 Too early to get too low on a Luka/KP pairing. On the court it's great. I don't think the Mavs feel any different ab KP. Now 2 years from now who knows but I think its way too early to think MBT is going to do anything with KP. Regarding THJ, if he does opt out Mavs could potentially could have some cap space to get someone here. There should be plenty of options, altho not all of them better than THJ. I do think he will opt in bc his contract is pretty good. That being said he could also be incentivized to lock in a longer-term deal even if it starts at a lower number due to the salary cap uncertainty. Either way I think Mavs will be fine. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - MaxiThreeba - 09-03-2020 If it is an open secret that if Giannis bolts it's to Toronto or Miami then Dallas' efforts should be two-fold. 1- Position yourself as an option for the Greek Freak 2- Be able to quickly pivot to being a landing spot for players those teams may have to unload; FVV (if he re-signs) and Powell in Toronto; DJJ, Adebayo, Robinson (if they're re-signed) in Miami Feels like this past summer the Mavs plans were Kemba followed by Oh Crap we missed on Kemba. If they want to chase the Greek Freak I am all for it but they need to have a viable Plan B to that chase. And just to beat the dead horse some more....the Powell contract is going to be a hindrance to any and all of this. I think they can get off Wright's money but Dwight presents a bigger problem. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - cow - 09-03-2020 I think THJ has played well enough to not only earn his current contract (which was universally panned) that maybe he does opt out for long term security. I'm just not sure who'd pull that trigger. I do think he's found the perfect place to thrive and we'd certainly miss his production, but I'd be happy moving on and hesitant to give him the type of payday he's earning today. I'm not sure I put any stock in Giannis rumors. Feels more like throwing darts and who better to name than the current two best organizations at putting together deep and competitive teams? As far as my KP/Luka comments, I'm thinking beyond KP's current contract and that's all health dependent. I guess you can put me in the concerned about his legs camp after the latest injury. I know a lot of us were envisioning that pairing for the next 10 years and that is starting to seem more unlikely. Those players you listed are not going to be unloaded. Both the Heat & Raptors have tons of cap space. I think even a maxed FVV would probably fit on the Raps with Giannis. Those other players are not getting in the way of Giannis signing with either of those teams. You know you are more than likely absolutely correct. I screwed up looking at their chart. Adebayo and Robinson will have small capholds and won't affect anything. I accelerated that a year and had those two and DJJ already re-signed heading in to that summer. Heat really put together a nice roster on the fly with mid-round firsts, vets and some home run bargain bin shopping RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 09-03-2020 (09-03-2020, 02:31 PM)MaxiThreeba Wrote:(09-03-2020, 02:18 PM)StepBackJay Wrote:(09-03-2020, 01:37 PM)MaxiThreeba Wrote: If it is an open secret that if Giannis bolts it's to Toronto or Miami then Dallas' efforts should be two-fold. According to the latest rumors the Heat won´t extend Adebayo this summer to clear capspace for Giannis and Oladipo. They can still use Adebayos bird rights to max him after both signed their contracts. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-03-2020 I know ab the Bam rumor but it doesn't make any sense. They would rather have Oladipo than Bam? Also Bam is an asset you could get a return for, why wouldn't you extend him first and trade him later if that's what you want? I will believe that when I see it. I will believe that when I see it. You don't understand. The plan is not to extend him this season as they will have his bird rights and his cap hold is low. They will enter 2021 offseason with Butler and a couple of rookie contracts (Okpala, Silva, Herro). They will have low cap holds of Bam, Nunn and Robinson. First step they sign free agents Oladipo and Giannis. Second step they resign Bam, Nunn and Robinson and go over the cap as much as needed. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-03-2020 I know Toronto has a good core and Masai Ujiri but I still wonder if Toronto as a city can attract a big FA. I listened to a Bosh podcast once and historically they have had a tough time getting FA's. Toronto isn't that far from NY but you do have the beating of going through customs all the time and very high taxes. In Miami you have no state income tax and...it's Miami. A place that guys want to go to. I still wonder if a Superstar FA wants to live in Toronto for any length of time. Ya that's a winner right there, I think Miami would be in the lead for Giannis if he bolts Milwaukee. Even if he likes the team he's on, he's in a small market and he's a superstar player. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Oct 18?) + Salary Chart - Scott41theMavs - 09-03-2020 Miami already looks like the favorites for rings this year the way they are playing. I abhor that franchise due to 2006 and their locational fortune. The thought of them improving beyond how good they are now... The thought of Luka being a perennial also-ran because of the Heat becoming obscenely stacked... |
